Baccarat Rules: How Do You Play Baccarat?

To sit at the Baccarat table before the cards are dealt, you don’t have to be James Bond.

Baccarat is so easy to learn that I could bet that you will progress from a beginner to a pro by the end of this article.

Wanna bet?
You can pretty much only bet in Baccarat, so you might want to ponder your answer. That’s right:

The first thing you do is sit down, count how many chips you want to invest, and decide where to place them.

The objective is to bet on the winning team. Baccarat offers three types of bets: the Banker’s bet, the Player’s bet, and the Tie bet.

There are between six and eight decks of cards in a regular game of Baccarat. The game begins with two hands being dealt on the table:

●  The Banker’s Hand

●  The Player’s Hand

The Player’s hand does not always win and you do not always win when the Player wins.

Since I know this might complicate things a little, I suggest you look at the two hands in Baccarat as:

●  The Banker’s Hand (or) Hand A

●  The Player’s Hand (or) Hand B

Having placed two cards on each part of the table, the dealer has now calculated the points and determined the value of each hand.

The Tens and the face cards are both counted as zero points. The other cards are worth their face value, and I want to clarify that the Ace counts as one point.

Additionally, if the value of your hand is a two-digit number, only the second digit is counted.

Let me give you an example*.

●  The Banker receives

●  The Player receives

The Banker wins in this hypothetical hand of Baccarat because 0+7= 7 points, while the Player’s hand is of only 2 points (9+3 = 12 points, but since we only use the second-digit, it only becomes of 2 points.

*: this is a simplified example. As you’ll see, things are a little more complex. But not by much.

Natural Winners in Baccarat

My dear, I am not talking about you here. I am about to share with you a very specific Baccarat rule that you need to keep in mind every time you bet on the Banker or the Player.

In case the first two cards have a combined point total of 8 or 9, the Player who hits this score (also called a natural win) wins the hand.

At this point, no more cards are dealt and the bets placed at the beginning of the action can be cashed in.

When Do You Need One More Card?

It is possible that you might need to see one more card if no one hits a natural win. That’s because the Player (who is the first one to play) stands on 6 or 7, but needs one more card on a 0-5 score.

And, how about the Banker?

It gets a little more complicated here, so if you’re trying to learn how to play Baccarat online, you’d better keep reading.

When the Player does not draw a third card, the Banker stays on a total of 6 or 7 and draws a card on a total of 0-5.

  • ●  If the Player draws a 9, 10, face-card, or Ace as his third card, the Banker draws on a 0-3 score and stays on a 4-7 score
  • ●  As long as the Player draws an 8 as his third card, the Banker stays on a 3-7 score with a 0-2 score
  • ●  If the Player draws a 6 or 7 as a third card, the Banker draws on a 0-6 score and stays at a 7
  • ●  The Banker draws a 0-5 score and stays on a total of 6 or 7 if the Player draws a 4 or 5 as a third card
  • ●  The Banker draws on a total of 5, 6, or 7 if the Player draws a 2 or 3 as a third card.

After all the cards are dealt, all you need to do is count the points to determine the winner. The person who gets closest to nine points wins.

The Tie Bet in Baccarat

Baccarat is a game that sometimes has no winner.

The game ends in a Tie if both the Banker and the Player have the same points. The bets on the Banker and the Player are returned (no one wins, no one loses) and only the bets on the Tie are paid.

You can expect a payout of between 8:1 and 9:1 for Tie bets.

The Best Bets in Baccarat

After you’ve learned how to play Baccarat, let’s move on to how to increase your chances of winning.

Whether you are a high roller or not, the basic Baccarat strategy doesn’t change:

You should always bet on the Banker.

Here’s why:

Despite the fact that most Casinos apply a commission to this bet (*5 percent), it is the best bet in the game.

The secret is in the house edge.

●  The banker’s bet has a 1.06 percentage point house edge.

●  A player’s bet has a 1.24 percentage point house edge.

●  There is no house edge on the Tie bet

There are so few chances of hitting the Tie bet that only a deranged gambler would choose this third option.

That’s all there is to it – really!

Place your money on the Banker and wait until it is the right time to cash out your winnings. Don’t forget to apply all the basic bankroll management tips that every noob should know!
